SPA CENTER
The Spa Center of the spa for therapeutic mud, mineral and Kneipp therapies is embedded within an idyllic park and landscaped area and there are many historical as well as modern sights to be discovered. For example the new "Gradierwerk", the historical spa park, the art nouveau Kurhaus, the restaurant, the Kneipp Therapy Centre as well as the Kurmittelhaus (central spa building with new salt therapies) all offer a variety of possibilities for relaxation, health and enjoying nature.
The Spa Center uses three locally found remedies from Bad Schmiedeberg which have proven to have a high therapeutic quality when combined with the great medical and therapeutic expertise to be found there. These have been used in treatments for over 140 years.
The long tradition of using the therapeutic mud found in Bad Schmiedeberg for orthopaedic and gynaecological treatments since 1878 has made the town famous around the world as an officially recognised health spa. Radon is used as a remedy as well as the two locally found therapeutic waters – named Kurfürsten water and Margarethen water – which have been utilised for therapeutic purposes since 1999 when the central spa building - the Kurmittelhaus was opened, imparting great wellbeing and restored health to the guests of the spa. In 2015, the Moritz Hauswald water, named after the founder of the spa, was opened in the spa park and is accessible to spa guests and visitors alike.
KNEIPP THERAPY CENTRE
The Kneipp Therapy Centre in Bad Schmiedeberg is unique within Germany. Behind its strong walls, you can lean back and simply relax. The stressful atmosphere of your day-to-day life will not be able to reach you inside. Here, within the tranquil atmosphere of the centre, is where the teachings of the 19th century priest Sebastian Kneipp are experienced, instructed and practiced using a variety of Kneipp treatments. The five elements of Kneipp's philosophy are experienced here to the fullest extent during all four seasons of the year. Due to the optimally designed architecture of the building as well as the loving care given to the plants and herbs in the creatively arranged Kneipp garden, it is possible for them to remain green throughout the cold winter season as well. Take an informative guided tour through this idyllic location and you will be amazed.
This is the reason why it is possible for you to practice Kneipp hydrotherapy in the wading basin as well as the arm basin throughout the winter as well as during the warmer months. There are many interesting presentations which provide information on the five pillars of Kneipp therapy, taking place at regular intervals. Come every day to our tea bar, where you can enjoy a great variety of teas or take part in an informative tea hour. In the Kneipp store, you will discover interesting products all about the Kneipp philosophy and you can browse and leave your day-to-day concerns behind you. The harmonious atmosphere of the Kneipp Therapy Centre entices you to stay a while and just relax. Make use of the Kneipp treatments, such as the hayflower sack, to the benefit of your health and lean back and make a mindful decision to simply unwind.
ART NOUVEAU KURHAUS
The art nouveau Kurhaus, designed by the architect Ernst Arthur Hänsch, celebrated its grand opening in 1907 and is one of the oldest buildings in the Spa Center. The historical charm of the art nouveau style endows it with a lovely ambiance. This is where you can find the á la carte restaurant, in addition there is the grand ballroom, which is home to a variety of cultural events, concerts or balls such as the Spa Ball or New Year's Eve Ball. The Kurhaus also serves as a branch office of the local registry office and marriage ceremonies are carried out in the Kurhaus. Facilities such as the grand ballroom, the restaurant, the pavilion or the Kurhaus-garden can be booked for your wedding reception. Likewise, the multipurpose rooms offer ideal locations for birthday parties, anniversaries and company events such as seminars or workshops as well as Christmas parties.
The reception in the art nouveau Kurhaus also serves as Bad Schmiedeberg's town information centre and it can provide you with information about the sights of the region as well as tips for leisure, hiking, and cycling trips. Likewise, you can buy tickets here for events or day trips. The "WelterbeCard", which can be used for leisure activities, can also be purchased here.
